The Groupement d’Intérêt Scientifique (GIS) ALBATROS (ALliance Bordeaux universities And Thales Research in aviOnicS) is a premier collaborative ecosystem uniting the industrial expertise of Thales with the academic excellence of leading French research institutions, including Bordeaux INP, the University of Bordeaux, CNRS, and Inria. Founded in 2010, this scientific interest group bridges the gap between fundamental academic research and industrial application in the aerospace and defense sectors. GIS ALBATROS fosters innovation through joint research programs, CIFRE PhDs, and technology transfer, focusing on critical engineering challenges such as human-computer interaction, remotely-controlled and autonomous avionics systems, advanced electronic architecture, and signal and image processing. By synergizing academic rigor with industrial strategy, ALBATROS actively drives the next generation of technological advancements in avionics.
Bordeaux INP is a leading network of public engineering graduate schools in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, recognized for its high-level scientific education, research excellence, and robust technology transfer. Comprising specialized schools—such as ENSEIRB-MATMECA, ENSC, and ENSPIMA—Bordeaux INP trains innovative engineers in highly technical fields ranging from electronics, computer science, and telecommunications to cognitive engineering and aeronautical maintenance. The institution’s academic programs are deeply integrated with 11 joint research laboratories operated in partnership with the CNRS, the University of Bordeaux, and Inria. Known for its strong ties to the socio-economic world and industrial partners, Bordeaux INP serves as a major regional and national catalyst for applied scientific research and technological innovation.
